Target classes will no meet the week of December 1st to 5th due to testing for gifted services. Students will most likely meet next week for at least half of the school day. There is no need to bring the Target Binder in December. We will be doing STEM projects and as well as logic and algebra lessons.

Students have been assigned a project to be presented in November. Below are the directions. Please remember the students must do the work. You can assist when they need to go on the internet or help on computer programs.

Projects due Sept. 8th. Be ready to share one of your projects. 4th Grade- We began the day by practicing "Active Listeners." The students did a puzzle building activity to thoroughly explore the types of Evaluative Thinking. Next students listen to the book "The Night I Followed my Dog." Students then used Evaluative Thinking (ET) to decide on an animal and an activity the animal would do. They used the animal to create a story. Lastly, we used our" Active Listening" skills to respond to the stories shared. Lastly for the day, we had a logic puzzle and new Hands on Equation lesson. Students learned the white pawn, called "star," is opposite the blue pawn, called "x." Homework- Complete ET worksheet 3rd Grade- We began with a Snip it of Snoopy and Woodstock. We are getting to know the cartoons in the newspaper and are evaluating them for humor. Students also began a detailed look at humor by working in small groups at stations. Each station looks at different ways humor is a part of our everyday lives. One group created hilarious limericks. Another added text to Garfield comic strips. A third group created skits based on stories that have humor, while the last 2 groups worked on solving jokes that are coded and creating rubrics to assess humorous situations. For HOE students worked on balancing the sides of the equation by getting the "x's" on one side and the numeral on the other, using legal moves. Homework- Complete ET worksheet 2nd Grade- Students worked hard to solve logic problems following specific rules. They also completed the Evaluative Thinking (ET) activity that the 4th grades worked on. The 2nd graders had fantastic stories as well. Students also set a daily goal and a year long goal. Be sure to read them in the Target Binder. Homework- Complete ET worksheet Looking forward to anther great week! 5th Grade - We continued our study of William Shakespeare and his works. Students worked on their Tic-Tac-Toe board projects and then create tableaux scenes from Romeo and Juliet. They were fantastic! Next we worked a logic puzzle and continued with Hands on Equations. Students will be learning to work with negative numbers the next time we meet.
Homework- 2 Tic-Tac-Toe projects. One project will be presented to the class on September 8th. 4th Grade- Students created their model cars based on their design plans. Then the "ramp/hill" test was conducted. We put our evaluative thinking skills to work trying to find the best design for speed and distance. We also participated in a game called "What's your value?" Students had to hold a number card on their forehead without looking at it. Then they had to walk around and interact with the other students. The other students were to respond to each other based on the "value of the card." Students learned a lot about self-confidence as well as the terrible feeling of being judged or being the judger. The discussion after the game showed our class really values character not looks! We had an excellent time learning and growing in Target this week. 5th grade- We discovered what it means to "Seize the Day, " practiced our communication skills through tableaus, as well as learned about using our voice effectively. We also reviewed previously learned steps to solving Hands On Equations and added the new step of recognizing (-x) as *. Students were given a "tic-Tac- toe" choice board of activities to complete to support our Shakespeare unit. Students are to choice 2 activities to complete by Sept. 8th. They need to plan to present 1 of their activities to the class. We set up our Edmodo accounts. Look for a blue letter in the Target binder next week explaining Edmodo. Homework- Tic-Tac-Toe Shakespeare projects- due Sept. 8th 4th grade- We continued our learning of the ways to use Evaluative Thinking. Students brainstormed individually and then in a small group to design their model car needed for next week's experiment. Students were given the opportunity to use a website called Forces and Movement in order to test effects of grade of the ramp, size and weight of the car and distance it would travel. We also review Hands On Equations from last year. We will take a pre-test next week to gage what students remember and where they need to begin with their learning this year. Lastly, we set up our Edmodo accounts. Students have a blue form for parents to sign telling me whether the student can use Edmodo or not. Homework- Get blue form signed and bring supplies for model car. 3rd grade- We continued our study of individual character traits, steps to Hands On Equations and using/understanding humor when people communicate. At this point, Hands On Equations may be a point of frustration. I told students to keep with it and in a few lessons, things will make more sense. We began our first S.T.E.M. project this week. Students are creating a two way sorter to help speed up the sorting of beads. They completed the brainstorming step and will build their model next week to give it a test run. Homework- Logic puzzle 2nd grade- We began our day with a look at "Judy Moody," a character who has ZEST for life. We defined what it means to be full of zest and listed examples of it. Students finished sorting "Sybil's" creatures in to 4 categories which lead into our first S.T.E.M experiment. Students are working together to create a 2 way sorter to separate beads quickly. Lastly, students learned about linear patterns. Homework- Linear pattern practice page Monday- 5th grade- We began our Shakespeare unit with some quotes by Shakespeare and acting out a Tableaux. This was a lot of fun! Students completed a pretest on the past experiences with Hands on Equations. Lastly, we used our divergent thinking to create sea life for our wall aquarium and added our on definition of what excellence means to us. Homework: The reflection homework is based on finding facts about Shakespeare. Homework- The reflection homework is based own how understanding oneself helps with working with others. Homework: The reflection homework is based on finding ways to keep from being bored. Thursday- 3rd grade- We began our unit on HUMOR. We have many joke tellers in our group:) Students participated in their first Hands On Equation lesson. Next we look at the word character in the sense of personal character. Lastly, we used our divergent thinking to create sea life for our wall aquarium and added our on definition of what excellence means to us. Homework- The reflection homework is based on their own character traits. Questions about Target Eligibility?
