I hope everyone had an enjoyable Fall Break.
2nd Grade - Students began a new STEM project. They will be constructing sail boats based on specific criteria and then sailing them judging them based on speed and the weight the boat can hold. We re-introduced Divergent Thinking and how we use it in our daily lives. We will focus on D.T. for the several weeks. Students also listen to the book "I Feel Silly and other Moods," by Jamie Lee Curtis. They reflected on their current mood and why they felt this mood. Lastly, we continued practicing continuing patterns and using strategies to name future placement of objects. An example would be: Name the 75th object in the following pattern. B, D, C, Z.
Homework: Logic Puzzle
4th Grade - Students shared their Transportation art/literature projects. The presentations were FANTASTIC! I am blown away by the creativity and research that most students showed. Ask your students about their favorite presentations. Be aware that the expectation of projects has increased from 3rd grade. Several students left off the written reflection piece. Students divided into small groups to plan their bridge they will be building next week. The criteria and materials were explained and shared.
3rd Grade- Students were delayed coming to Target due to CoGat testing. However, once they arrived they continued coding their robots. The robots can now tell jokes, warn of intruders, carry messages, and flash lights. We also completed a quiz on logic grid puzzles. Lastly, we continued solving Sudoku puzzles. Several students are mastering this style of puzzle!
5th Grade- Students had a busy day today. We began with a logic quiz and then spent time on the Tic Tac Toe Shakespeare projects. The last 2 projects are due next week. Many students have turned in all three. We worked on positive and negative numbers in Hands on Equations. We are using a strategy called: KCO - Keep, Change, Opposite. Ask your student to show you the steps. Lastly we began to study oxymoron's.
Homework: Finish all Shakespeare projects and worksheet on oxymoron's.
